とても長い梅雨があけましたが、今は猛暑の日々が続く。これからしばらく雨が降らないようだ。露地栽培は大変だ。
After the very long rainy season, we’re now in the middle of a heatwave. No sign of rain coming for a while. Open cultivation is tough.

グログの更新は久しぶりだ。絶え間なく続くベリー摘み取り・検品・配達の毎日。4時半に起きて、9時に寝る。家族が支援してくれているから、何とか上記の作業に対応できている。
It’s been a long time since I updated the blog. Every day is an endless stream of picking the berries, checking the berries, and then delivering the berries. Up at 4.30 a.m. and in bed (if I’m lucky) by 9pm. Lots of help from the family. so we’re getting through it all…just.

ここ一カ月、いろいろあった。多数の販売先を開拓したり、宣伝のためラジオに出たりして、そしてブラックベリーは射水市のきらら保育園の昼ごはんの献立にも出た。
A lot has happened in the past month. Developed a lot of new customers for the berries, been on the radio to advertise them, and they made an appearance in the lunch menu at Kirara Nursery School (my daughter’s school) in Imizu-city.

畑での自然に関しては、晩夏になり、虫が畑を占領している。穿孔性害虫の被害があっちこっちにあり、多種の青虫も出現している。この前、スズメバチの巣を発見して、かなり気持ち悪かった。幸いに早い段階で見つけたからまだ小さくて、スズメバチの巣の駆除をした経験がある友達がいて、彼にやっつけてもらった。
On the nature front, it’s late summer now and as usual the insects are starting to take over. Boring (i.e. boring into bush branches!) insect damage is all over the place, various types of caterpillar are starting to appear. Found a wasp nest the other day, which was pretty grim. Luckily, I spotted it at an early stage so it wasn’t too big and I have a friend who has experience in getting rid of these nests.

摘み取りは終わりに近づいてきているけど、まだたくさん残っている。以下の写真を見れば、ベリーの量が大体分かると思う。
The picking is coming towards the end but there’s still a lot of picking to go. The below picture gives you an idea of the volume.
